Quality, Service or Cost: You can only choose two ! Which of these are most important to you? Remember the student, being trained today, may the Ophthalmic Tech saving your sight tomorrow!
How:
Plan, implement and deliver trained personnel. Create a plan for implementation to produce knowledgeable students. Deliver a quality professional graduate to the field and workforce.
What:
Produce quality students, who are dedicated, service oriented ophthalmic professionals, with a mission and desire to assist in saving sight. Is it not the most important factor when trusting your eyes for the future! Our program makes it happen! Is it not time to take action and utilize it personally as well?
Part B of What's your Why.
Why - really should included two things interest and fact finding. Interest for the heart and facts for the mind. i.e. When addressing the heart and mind always interest first. Without the heart's interest the mind becomes disinterested, complacent, and unable to be open to change.
How - Now that you have steered them to emotional ownership, while laying out your idea for change with their input. Urgency is injected through the understanding that being first is always better than being second, again appealing to their hearts. We always remember the first but very seldom remember the runner-up. Describe how through their forward thinking and bold contributions all things are possible! It can not be stressed enough that there is a difference between doing and over thinking. Make the doing easy and let them take ownership, leave your ego at home. You have done the leg work let them take credit for the team win.
What - Put your project in action if you have done the why and how the what is simply letting them feel good about the future and the end result. You need to be their cheerleader. Reinforce their commitment to the project and their the emotional investment.
In closing always remember, this simple example. When buying a car, the why is because you need transportation. Any car will get you from point A to point B. The how is how it gets you there, in luxury, powerful or cutting edge technology. You have now crossed over from the mind to the heart. What is when they feel urgency to be the first among their peers.
